A Guys Night Out in Utah

Fed up with work, women, and life, we decided to disappear for a few days. A friend of mine offered us his cabin in Strawberry Point (near Duck Creek, Utah). Our stay consisted of tobacco, beer, meat, and the occasional ATV ride. Overall, it was outstanding fun. We lucked out with the weather and enjoyed a pristine 80 degrees during the day.

We took a short hike to a lookout point and roughed it for a bit. The trip could not have been better.

Imperative Reaction - We’re a One Trick Pony

folder

When I first heard of Imperative Reaction, I was thrilled. Techno-Industrial with “A Clockwork Orange” samples? Count me IN! At the time I was also very much into :Wumpscut: and Velvet Acid Christ. I was in musical nirvana.

Their first CD came out of Pendragon Records. This would be the same record label that housed Haujobb and Gridlock. All signs pointed to a great thing, but not for long. First, Metropolis Records bought out Pendragon Records. Later, Imperative Reaction suffered a loss of data working on their second album. The result was their CD titled “Ruined”.

What an aptly named album…. The CD sounded like any other Electro/Industrial release of the time. The vocals were cleaned up and everything was more bland. Their followup “Redemption” certainly didn’t, and that was the end of my interest in the band. I have more than enough Futurepop with Assemblage 23 and VNV Nation thank you very much.

If you’ve ever wondered why I dislike Imperative Reaction so much, check out their debut album. They had so much potential and cashed out with mediocrity.
